Republic National Distributing Revisits Category Management
Wine and spirits distributor to use solutions from JDA Software to implement best-practice space management processes as part of initiative to reduce markdowns and stock-outs
Scottsdale, AZ — June 20, 2008 — Beverage distributor Republic National Distributing Company (RNDC) is set to replace its category management systems with solution from JDA Software Group as part of an initiative to reduce markdowns and stock-outs through the deployment of best-practice space management processes, shared databases and common reporting practices across its 21 states.
RNDC, the second largest wholesaler and distributor of premium wine and distilled alcoholic beverages in the U.S. market, with more than 6,000 employees, will use JDA Software solutions including Space Planning, Space Automation and Efficient Item Assortment.
Additional benefits that the company is anticipating include the ability to streamline training, create bench training environments for new users, and improve profitability with the support of JDA Software.
"We decided to replace our current solutions to leverage the supply chain innovations that JDA Software solutions provide," said Dirk van Renesse, RNDC corporate director of category management. "This software will enable us to more effectively calculate and execute category plans, achieving demand-based precision merchandising for maximized profitability and sales per square foot."
JDA said that Space Planning helps companies by analyzing inventory modeling scenarios to determine target inventories for each product, helping to reduce stock while keeping the right amount of product on hand. Incorporating a business-level scripting solution such as Space Automation solutions allows companies to automate day-to-day activities, import financial information into planograms and floorplans and ensure data consistency that transform the enterprise-wide supply chain into a strategic differentiator, the solution provider said.
"Through the use of JDA Software solutions, we hope to further streamline our space and category management processes to set a stronger foundation for the continued expansion of Republic National Distributing Company," van Renesse added.
RNDC also implemented Efficient Item Assortment. Commenting on the capabilities and features of the software solutions and how Republic National Distributing will benefit, van Renesse said: "JDA's solutions will allow us to build specific category plans around our strategic business methodologies. We can now better align our customers, category roles and category performance goals. As a result, our entire supply chain will become more efficient, which will translate into lower costs and increased productivity."
David Johnston, JDA Software senior vice president of manufacturing and wholesale distribution, said that JDA's supply chain solution would enable RNDC to drive consistent execution of corporate strategic assortment decisions, achieve inventory reductions and improve customer service levels to enhance overall profitability.
"More and more companies are focusing on supply chain optimization to deliver improved market responsiveness, better lifecycle management, optimized network-wide inventory levels and reduced logistics costs," Johnston said.
